I first bought Jolie Madame in 1963 in Paris while I was at school in Switzerland. I tested many fragrances for over a year and settled on JM.It is a lovely scent ,not overpowering but very distinctive.The last time I bought it was in Paris in 2006 and [...] I got the exact same bottle from Scentimets for wasy less.

This is a woodsy leathery fragrance. I purchased it because of the great reviews and the name -- Jolie Madame de Balmain! A nice change from all the other fruity florals that are so popular these days. It smells a bit floral and dusty at first, then dries down to a softer powdery scent. The drydown has a similar note to Jardins de Bagatelle. Although overall a very different fragrance from "Jardins." It would smell great under a suede or leather jacket. Nice for cooler weather. I was disappointed it didn't come with the lovely grey silk cord with the cute tassles.

They do not create such classic great fragrances as this anymore. "Jolie Madame" is from the era when a fragrance was created for ever, not for just next year. I don't just wear it; it becomes me.
