Two women advized me to buy Arpege to give my wife-to-be in 1966. She was an Australian nurse volunteer I had met as a U.S. Army Special Forces doctor in the Bien Hoa Province Hospital, S. Viet Nam. This classic floriental from the 1920'S may be initially off-putting because the powdery aldehydes in the top-notes scream "grandma!" to contemporary users. Patience is required because Arpege is worth waiting for the dry down when it descends the scale to its earthy base of sanadalwood & vetiver under the sensuous feminine triad of rose, iris & jasmine. This is no teen fragrance: it needs a woman to stand up to its power.

I started using this fragrance in 1959 and loved it. It was reasonable in price for a teenager to afford and I was always complimented on the scent. As time went by, the fragrance seemed to lose something. When I found it on line, I had high hopes that it would be as I first remembered but, find that the fragrance does not last. This one is great and you do have to wait for the dry down. It reminds me of No. 5 at first, but gets more floral as it dries down. The dry down is a stronger version of Je Reviens Worth - another classic!
